USS Marlin

Introduction

The USS Marlin is the first submarine that I built. As of 2020 I am working on my second submarine, the USS Skipjack. I acquired this Marlin kit from my friend Skip Asay. Skip and I lived in the Monmouth County NJ area and are/were both members of the Garden State Model Boaters (GSMB). I acquired the kit, let’s say sometime around 2000. It sat in storage for at least ten years before I started working on it. The date code on the original pictures started in November 2001 so that is how I will be labeling the dates, approximately. I have the complete build of the Marlin on RC Groups and it can be found here. The flow of how I built this kit may not follow how it was done on RCGroups. The kit was designed for someone starting up with model submarines. I took it beyond the basics by accessorizing and detailing it more than what it was meant to be built. Although I am no longer updating that thread, further information can be found on my web site. Any descriptions or content here will not be thorough like it may be on RCGroups.

Tail cone

November 2011. Staring on the tail cone, push rod slots were cut in the upper section and tabs were glued in place to help glue the two halves together. The tail fins needed cleanup from the molding process and holes were drilled for the tail fin pins. A wooden template was supplied which help line up the fins. I added some internal covers for the push rod holes to make it look better from the outside.
